Nuclear energy is a great alternative fuel resource!
We have been a slow at using it because of one incident which occured when nuclear power plants were just being introduced, and that incident was Three Miles Island. Today, it is still in use.
Also, the US Navy, as well as other nations, have been using nuclear power ships (aircraft carriers, submarines, and destroyers) for decades. They are ment of combat and none of them have had any problem.
We have to stop this stalling!

Nuclear power is but one of many sources of energy that can free us from oil dependency.

I say let's go with nuclear energy (but let's stay away from the "nucular" kind, why don't we?).

Sounds good but it takes 25 years to build one. France was way ahead of us on this long ago. I saw bring on wind and solar and build the nuclear along the way to replace, coal. Build one, take the other off line. We still need the improved grid to go along with it. Conservation keeps your money in your pocket.

I'm not sold on the idea of more nuclear plants. Maybe it could be a good thing, but we have a lot of work to do and we need to first address the issue of what we will do with the waste.

We use to be world leaders. I guess our leadership is failing us more and more every day otherwise we would be investing more into nuclear energy.

Is this helping the US or just China and Westinghouse Electric. Is is lowering the debt that we owe China and why aren't we building these in the US and get rid of Oil (gasoline)to make or cars go?

if they have improved the nuclear reactors that much then maybe we should look into it. the last one built here in the states was the late 70s or early 80s.

The Gunlsinger -- I'm not ready for a game of global thermo nuclear war and I'm hoping that you and the rest of the world isn't either? But I'm sure that it wouldn't take much to start it either. This world is probably much closer to it than anyone cares to admit and that's the scary part, since China, Russia and India don't have very good oversight of their country's nuclear arsenals. One day, there might be one big mushroom cloud that totally covers the Earth and life as we know it will cease to exist...

You are so busy complaining about Washington and the Obama Administration you apparently do not have time to tread the news - its old news at that - its even been posted here on GasBuddy.com
By MATTHEW L. WALD New York Times Published: February 16, 2010
"WASHINGTON — President Obama, speaking to an enthusiastic audience of union officials in Lanham, Md., on Tuesday, underscored his embrace of nuclear power as a clean energy source, announcing that the Energy Department had approved financial help for the construction of two nuclear reactors in Georgia.
The announcement of the loan guarantee — $8.3 billion to help the Southern Company and two partners build twin reactors in Burke County — comes as the administration is courting Republican support for its climate and energy policies. With climate legislation stalled in the Senate and its prospects for success dim, Democrats are seeking new incentives to spur clean energy development and create jobs.
In his speech, Mr. Obama portrayed the decision as part of a broad strategy to increase employment and the generation of clean power. But he also made clear that the move was a bid to gain Republican support for a broader energy bill."

Thanks to Jimmy Carter we aren't allowed to recycle the spent rods to be re-used in the same reactors.
It's time for America to say enough is enough.

Progress. It's great, but we can't benefit because no one can build nuclear power stations in the U.S. Boo Hoo.
