nat gas in cars would reduce reliance on foreign oil, especially since the obama administration issued an executive order late friday banning offshore drilling that was scheduled to start this july until 2012.

Is that "100 years" based on today's consumption or future higher (or lower) consumption.

altonb1 " But we DO have an abundance of oil available in this country, too. The only problem with our own domestic oil supply is the environmentalist lobby has (thus far) done a good job of keeping us from harvesting it." Thats not true. The oil companies hold PERMITS and LEASES on over 43,000 acres with little to no drilling. Whos holding up oil production in this country?

People seem to think that the laws of nature shift into neutral when a resource begins to be used. The same forces of nature that were at work in the past to create the resource is at work today in a yet undiscovered area. It is time to challenge the forecasters and the environmentalists.

Only 100 year's worth? That's OK for me, but what about our kids and grand kids? What about the cost of this resource as it gets used up?

Regardless - we have a huge, readily available supply of natural gas which if used as a heating fuel and, with little modification, to run our transportation vehicles, would free us from the dependency on imported oil. That would give us time to develop oils replacement in addition to having an enormous impact on the price of oil.

We thought the same thing of OIL once. Natural gas can be a new start, but we will need to have good renewable sources to off set it use to make it last 200 years. Conservation keeps your money in your pocket.

we have an incredibly affordable way to run cars... but no one will do it... remember preston tucker?
prototypes have been built..... and for 100 years... a TRUE hybrid has moved across the earth @ hundreds of miles per gallon....... they call them diesel-electric locomotives...and cars have been built on the principal
but the accelerate too fast

we aren't going to run out of natural gas.... but it pollutes and is waaaaaaaaaay too expensive!!! Talk about a rip off, it costs about TRIPLE the price of electric (wind energy for you who want to rip apart the pollutes too much comment)... We really need more affordable energy, especially when it comes to CARS!!!

it isnt a myth. my father worked as a mechanic in wyoming in 1960's. for wurthin (i dont know the spelling) machinery. they repaired the oil rigs cats and trucks. the "gas hills" of wyoming arent named that by accident.
dad had to pick his way through 24 CAPPED NG wells to get to a site to fix a cat. each CAPPED well has over 24-240 MILLION cubit feet of gas beneath it.... church buttes wyomng is the same.. about 14 such sites
this was in the 60's and the wells havent been tapped, still capped...we saw one while deer hunting in 1997... 112 million CF of NG
there are hundreds of these things out there... why think T boon pickins is pushing for NG cars?

NG "from shale formations can be extracted at a low price"? That's not what as determined here in Coloradeo! High cost of energy, water, and waate disposal.
